The Life of a Hunter's Wife

As many of you already know, I married a hunter. It has been a wonderful year of marriage now and I decided to give my husband's hobby a try, so he put me in for a mule deer hunt this year. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, so Aaron had us tag along last weekend on a White tail hunt in the same unit to give me an idea of what hunting is all about. I really enjoyed it and couldn't wait for my hunt.

We left late Thursday night, so we could get up and hunt all day Friday. That morning we saw two huge White tail bucks, but there was no Mule deer to be found, so we took a break and decided to head out later in the day. Closer to sundown we were at it again and just our luck we stumbled upon a Mule buck with 11 does. Aaron screamed at me to get the gun (as quietly as possible of course) and I tried to find the deer in the scope. I still can not believe that deer stood there that long, but I finally made the shot and hoped for the best.

After waiting a good 20 minutes, we headed out to see if there was a deer to be found, or if I had missed him and about 40 yards from where I shot him, there he was...

My first deer, I still can't believe it! Beginners luck, I guess, but Aaron has me hooked now. The whole experience was incredible and I know that you don't always come home with something, but I couldn't have asked for a more perfect first hunt.

Here are some more pictures of us back at camp. The blood on my face is complements of Aaron, who said you have to do it for your first deer, so next time there won't be so much blood.

I apologize if you are squimish!!
